On October 19, 2021, the University of San-Pedro in Côte d'Ivoire, which was built by WIETC, held a grand opening ceremony. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Higher Education of Côte d'Ivoire, Governor and Mayor of San-Pedro, Coordinator of University Decentralization Planning Committee and Presidents of six universities in Côte d'Ivoire. Mr. He Shenjian, the General Manager of WIETC West Africa Zhengwei and top executives of our local partners were invited to the Opening Ceremony.
Before attending the grand opening ceremony held in the lecture hall with 500 seats, the Minister of Higher Education and his delegation visited the single buildings which were delivered. The Minister delivered a speech at the ceremony, saying that President Alassane Ouattara attaches great importance to education, has launched the University Decentralization Program (PDU) and invested a lot of money to improve educational conditions. This made it possible for the University of San-Pedro project to be implemented. The Minister showed respect to President Ouattara and expressed thanks to all people who have made arduous efforts for the project. Subsequently, the representative of the mayor of San-Pedro, local administrative officials, the President of the University of San-Pedro and the President of Bassam International University also delivered speeches. In the cheers of all the people on the scene, the Opening Ceremony came to a successful conclusion.
The University of San-Pedro is the seventh public university in Côte d'Ivoire and an important livelihood project in the country. The project, to be built in four phases, will enroll 20,000 students upon completion. Up to date, some buildings in phase I have been delivered. The whole phase I project is expected to be delivered in 2022 when 3,000 students will study at the university. It is of great significance to promote the development of higher education, improving people’s education level and facilitating local employment in Côte d'Ivoire.This is the first major project constructed by WIETC West Africa Zhengwei in Côte d'Ivoire in PPP mode. In order to ensure that the semester starts on time, the company has overcome all the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and made comprehensive arrangements. Colleagues of the project team have been working overtime day and night and finally completed the construction task of the first phase on time in high quality. The project team will take this ceremony as a new starting point, continue to overcome difficulties, complete the follow-up project construction tasks with high standards and live up to the expectations of the WIETC West Africa Zhengwei and the people of Côte d'Ivoire!
